A unique wool rug with Moghul patterns

The unique Lahore Moghul carpet is a hand-knotted carpet made of the highest quality hand-spun New Zealand wool, on a cotton warp. The wool is dyed with natural dyes obtained from walnuts, pistachios and the Kermes beetle. The so-called Moghul-Red color is typical for this carpet. During the final treatment, the carpet is washed in a special tea bath, which gives this carpet a specific patina and shine. Carpet fringes also acquire a patina in this process. The carpet can be displayed in interiors with underfloor heating. The original of this rug is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The carpet was handwoven in the vicinity of the Indian city of Aurai.
